JOB TITLE: Sports Marketing Director
REPORTS TO: President
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Connecticut Convention & Sports Bureau’s sales director will be responsible for lead generation, qualification, and solicitation of accounts through personal sales calls, telemarketing, direct mail, electronic media, and tradeshow involvement. As a part of the team, this individual shall also be responsible for sales and business relationship building activities involving local hotels/motels, facilities, local municipal officials across Connecticut, and State officials, local media, meeting planners, and other related representatives.
The role includes developing and implementing an aggressive sports marketing program for hotels and sports facilities throughout the state of Connecticut. Soliciting sporting events and related meeting business to substantially increase the sports market segment in terms of hotel room night generation.
This individual must have a high level of self-motivation, excellent time management skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of Connecticut hotels and sports facilities to effectivelyposition the state as a premier destination for meetings and events.
Proactively develop and qualify sales leads with area hotels and sports facilities to attract conventions,tournaments, and major events.
Cultivate and strengthen relationships with local sports facility managers, administrators, and decision-makers.
Represent the Connecticut Convention & Sports Bureau at various sports-related tradeshows includingthe TEAMS Conference and the Sports ETA Symposium
Develop and maintain contact with local sports organizations and associations to increase their awareness and involvement in marketing the facilities located in the state of Connecticut.
Build and grow partnerships with local sports organizations and associations to expand awareness andpromote Connecticut’s event-hosting capabilities.
Engage regularly with key influencers in event and convention planning through calls, emails, and in-person meetings.
Lead the coordination of bid submissions and invitations to host sports events and conventionsthroughout Connecticut.
Host and manage site inspection visits for organizational representatives, showcasing Connecticut’s
facilities and event opportunities.
Maintain communication with sporting event planners and sports-related convention planners whenever
their events are held in Connecticut as a courtesy and to provide service to their groups whenever
possible.
Experience and Desired Qualifications:
Four-year bachelor’s degree preferred.
Strong analytical and organizational skills.
Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, or other relational sales management databases.
Knowledge of the Simpleview CRM tool and Cvent is a bonus.
Strong and consistent ability to prioritize activities and to manage multiple responsibilities within a
specific timeframe.
Excellent communication and public presentation skills, and ability to work with a diverse group of
individuals and groups. Must be people-oriented, have high stamina/energy levels, and be very “goal
oriented.” Other important characteristics are proven problem analysis and resolution skills with
exceptional analytical skills that work with a diverse group of partners.
Willing and able to work evenings, weekends and holidays based on client and business demands. This
position requires travel to domestic and potentially international destinations.
